Vincent short film mind map

Editing  Editing is used to show how delusional the main character Vincent is, as a shot of Vincent seemingly digging up a grave to find his 'dead wife' that is dark and only lighted by a small lantern turns to a cheerful sunny day with flowers as it turns out he's actually digging up his mothers flower bed as a very innocent and child like Vincent peers out of the whole he's dug. The juxtaposition between these two images shows how delusional Vincent is, comparing his dark fantasies to cheery flowers to emphasise how they are just fantasies, or how dark those fantasies are. Ghostly images fade in and out attacking Vincent, the technique of them fading shows how they are just weak delusions as well as giving them a more ghostly presence implying he is haunted by his delusions. These ghostly figures fade over a slanted checkerboard background, this optical illusion like background reflects the internal chaos Vincent is facing as his mind warps and has the effect...

The big shave short film mind map

Scorsese presents us with close ups of shiny bathroom equipment such as faucets with an almost sterile white background, giving clinical connotations as well as implying something mundane, therefore setting up the coming character to be possibly psychologically damaged and of a normal background. The sterile white background and shiny furnishing also un nerves the spectator with everything feeling blindingly bright and so sterile. The man is also dressed in a white t shirt, here the micro feature of mise en scene is used through costuming, to again give clinical connotations but could also imply purity or religious morality, as heaven is commonly associated with white implying American beliefs that they are morally pure and religiously correct. I would use this technique to also set up my character in a more subtle way, by for example showing a series of close ups of objects that connote achievement to set up a successful person but also juxtapose these objects with something more sini...

The Grandmother mind map

at 29:30 stop motion is used as we witness the grandmother wildly fly about the room, flashing from one place to another. The extremely quick cuts of her flying across the room, present her second death as extremely violent and therefore showing the difficulty and pain the boy feels at losing her a 2nd time. It has a very chaotic effect on the spectator as well again mirroring the internal chaos the boy feels at the grandmother's 2nd death, as the grandmother fly's across the room so quickly through theses extremely quick cuts, the spectator is never allowed to focus on one image or one moment from this sequence, instead we experience a sequence of flashing images showing the extreme trauma the boy is facing as his thoughts and the grandma similarly flash around chaotically. - EDITING The use of stop motion is interesting way to explore the medium of film, I could similarly use stop motion in my short film to convey extreme trauma e.g. a closeup of bare feet on a white rug wit...
